Day One . . . And it's traveling we will go!

Tuesday, Aug 5/14

Writing Wednesday a.m.:
They said it would never happen. The old band had broken up after a one-hit wonder and would never tour again. But they didn't count on the lure of Newfoundland . . . and family!
So here we are - one day under our collective now bigger belts (compliments of a spectacular supper at the Wagners) and on our way to Change Islands - main purpose? Nancy needs to catch her first ever fish! Here's hoping it is a massive cod!
Just time for a quick review as the cars are almost loaded:
Tuesday was a great travel day. We headed out in a shiny clean Sheridan van (thanks Brendan) and made great time . . . all the way to Starbucks! Second leg took us to the Masstown Market - us and every other vehicle on the NS roads!!  And then, straight to the airport. Things got interesting at the Porter counter when one of our band discovered her license was expired. It doesn't matter who, it could happen to anyone.
Our flight was uneventful . . . for Wes in particular, who, true to form, was asleep before the wheels left the ground and missed the free wine and snacks - a perfect example of "you snooze, you lose!"
The Wagners welcomed us with open arms, bar, and kitchen in Harbour Grace. I am always struck by the deja vu image of Wendy at a stove. Her command of the kitchen and her talent for producing a fabulous meal with deceptive ease is strongly reminiscent of Shirley, and adds yet another level to the sense of comfort and welcome in Lloyd's and her home(s).
We drew straws for beds last night, initiating a new tradition that is sure to be repeated as we make our way up and down the eastern coast . . . first winners of the long straw? Sandy and Nancy, who claimed the bridal suite!
Day One pictures include a few from the road to Halifax, supper (which included Wendy-caught cod cheeks and bits starters), and a few of the Wagner property - an oasis of casual abundance. It takes crazy skill to create a landscape that looks like a bower the faeries would claim as their own.
What a start!! The road is rising up for sure!! (:
Mass Town market - a must stop!
Last year a moose, this year the Irish Sheridan van!
                                                             Just one more call!
Wes to Dave - "I can. I can eat this rib in one bite!"
Ribs, sausage, Sandra-safe scrumptious salad, roasted veggies- the best Day One meal ever!
                                                     Wagner charm - front
                                                                      and back
Just a few tomatoes!
